Mabledon Estate.
My mother, Joyce Clark (formerly Smith) born in 1924, recognises this photograph of Quarry Hill. Her father William Smith was the sawyer for Mabledon Estate (on the right) and was responsible for felling the trees on the right of the photograph. Mabledon Estate (the gates are just off the photograph) was owned by the Deacon family who were London bankers. Mum's Uncle Charlie (Charles Eastwood) was the bailiff for the estate alongside William. Mum's grandfather (Charles Smith) was a sawyer before William took over.

RE: RE: Mabledon Estate.
Does anyone have any memories or photographs of the Lambs Bank cottages, close to the old brickworks, at the top of Quarry Hill just outside Tonbridge, on the way to Southborough ?
Thank you.

RE: RE: Mabledon Estate.
I have contacted you via the site Anne and written up a little of the memories your memory brought up for me. I lived in George St. My family hop picked at Larges farm at the top of Quarry hill Even through the war years. I would never have had a school uniform if we had not gone hop picking. I think his name was Mercer who come to tell us when to start He would blow his whistle and all our mums would come to the doors. We would all cheer. We would take a short cut via Baltic road I think! I miss the old times so much. Rolling up the bines. The smell of the hops . The stain left on the hands. I am not sure how the site works I have only just discovered it. I am in Australia
