School Days
In 1966 I was so proud to pass my 11 plus, the first in the family. We respected teachers then and wouldn't dream of answering back. Though I did seem to spend an awful lot of time in detention for talking in class. These were some of the best days of my life such fond memories of friends and teachers from long ago. Lynnette Ganda (nee Winter)
Freedom For Play
Maiden name Winter. I was born and raised in Gelli-gron Terrace, which you can see in this photo was a side street off Waunrhydd Road. The location from which this photo was taken we called 'the tump' where we children of Waunrhydd Toad used cardboard sheets from Mrs Bridge's shop (next door to Carpanini's cafe) to slide down the hill, to end at the high wall above the then Penygraig bus stop.
Marriage''s at This Church
I was married here in 1966, and most of my family. My dearest Mammy and Daddy were married there, and my daughter, two sisters and brother. Wonderful memories .... a lot of Christmas Eve Services with my cousin Pat and Bruce.. and some sad memories too.
My Visit Down The Mines.
Daddy worked here for many years...also my nephew and uncles. I went underground when I was 14 years old with a group of four youngsters, taken down to view the mines with a gentleman who worked there and was a family friend too, his name was Jackie Belting, from Thomastown. We had an amazing few hours and I never forgot it.
Where I Was Born
I was born in Tyn-y-Bryn in 1948 at 15, Heol Haulfryn, and still love to see the house where I was born.
Where I Lived.
I lived opposite this Grammar School for 28 years and can see my old house in this photo...I raised my three children there and moved out in 2003, which I regret to this day...
Children on Right of Photo
I believe that the children to the right of the photograph are me and my sister - Maureen and Elaine Holman. Maureen would have been 9 years old and Elaine 3 years. The date seems to coincide with our ages and we lived in Mill Street at that time.
School Days
I passed for Tonyrefail Grammar school in 1953, what excitement. It was so strange changing rooms for every lesson, hockey, tennis, Urdd, teachers wearing cap and gowns. The headmaster was T.Bowen Jones and was called Boss. The school was so big with pupils from places like Beddau and Ynysmaerdy. Coming from Gilfach Goch I had never heard of these places.
It was a good school and I enjoyed my time there.
