Catching Newts

That building to the left with the little spire was my school when I was 11 in 1966. I have spent many hours catching newts in that pond in the foreground. It was partly surrounded by a brick and concrete wall and they would tuck themselves into little caves.

I also went to Tylers Green School (from 1962-1968). Unfortunately the big tree in front of the school - a Canadian redwood - is no longer there. The elm trees that used to line Elm Road (from where the photo was taken) have also gone. One of them was hollow and we used to hide inside it. I also remember skating on the pond in the winter.
