Dating back to the 18th century, the deed to each of these cottages restricts the householder to replacing the thatched roof only with thatch, and further prescribes the method and colour of redecoration that may be carried out. It is doubtful that the legality of the covenant has ever been challenged. The bus on the right is an Eastern National vehicle operating the route between Ampthill and Bedford.

My Home
How lovely to see this picture of Bedford Street. I lived at the Prince of Wales until I married in 1959. My mom and dad had the pub for many years and dad also had the coaches. Lots of happy memories of the church school next to the Darknings Wood. Miss Grimmer and Mrs Sexton were my fav teachers, ohh.. and Mr Davies the headmaster. Memories...
Prince of Wales Coaches. I think that was my dad's bus coming up Church Street and Vic the postman bless him, you could hear him coming up the street. What lovely memories I have of Ampthill. I lived at Prince of Wales till my marriage in 1959.

Vic The Postman
I feel sure the postman shown is Vic, who always whistled as he delivered the mail. He was like a favourite uncle when I was a child - sadly missed.

Ampthill Siren
My abiding memory of Ampthill is when I used to go to the Saturday pictures with my cousins and the fire engine would be called out. The only problem was the siren that called them out was the old wartime air-raid siren. What a noise !!! I lived in Maulden but often visited Ampthill. thanks for the memories. !!!

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
