More about this scene

We are looking down on the village from the site of a Roman camp. The old Roman road drops steeply down onto the green, via a bridge over the short river from Semer Water, two miles away. The 17th- and 18th-century cottages overlook the wide expanse of the Green, which is also surrounded by inns, schools and chapels.

A Selection of Memories from Bainbridge

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Bainbridge

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

My grandfather, Guy Metcalfe, played in Bainbridge Brass Band; nearly half the band were Metcalfes, all related. One of my ancestors (on my mother's side) was the famous hornblower on the village green.
