I can remember in my youth, meeting here as a member of the Basildon drum and trumpet corp, we used to march up the slope and into the town square where we did our display. That was in the 1970s.

Reading some of the memories of Basildon, I rmember very well going to watch the Basildon drum and trumpet band in the 1970's with the Keary family, and then rose Keary and glen Carter started the mayflower and I joined that. The band were my whole life.
