I was born at the Grange Nursing Home in Berkhamstead on May 16, 1950. Dr Waterman delivered me. Do you know where it was located ? Any pictures or insights to the Grange Nursing Home ? I live in Seattle Washington USA now and would love to find out more. We lived at 35 Shrublands Road in Berkhamstead while my father was stationed at RAF Bovington with the USAF.
We moved to Berkhamsted around 1968 when I was 5 years old. I went to Westfield school. After that I went to Thomas Bourne School, in the first year we had to do a couple of days a week at North Church school due to too many pupils. After that Ashlyns, which I hated but survived.

My parents ran the wine merchants Castle & Co ( became Victoria Wine) and I was married in August 1969 at St Peters Church. We lived just down from the Court House and I had my wedding reception there. Walked along the cobbled lantern to my wedding!!!!
Was Valerie Whittle and now Val Spencer-Watkins and live in Australia now since 1981
I was born at the Grange Nursing Home in Berkhamsted on November 19th, 1950.
My parents were John and Marjorie Stanborough, my father was a school teacher at Park View School which later reverted to Westfield. We lived on the Durrants Estate in Ashridge Rise and I have lovely memories of playing with my friends there, having picnics in Ross Way and playing rounders on the green.

We moved to Berkhamstead from London in 1952. I went to Ashlyns which still had the Thomas Coram boarders. It was a Secondary School, Mr Gilbertson was Headmaster, we had Assembly every morning where all the staff wore their black cloaks, we had Church Services in the Chapel where Mr Cuthbertson played the organ. My story is similar to that of Yvonne Parker. When I got married in 1974 we bought our first house in Victoria Road and raised our three children there. They all attended a playgroup in the Baptist Church on the other side of the High Street and moved on to Victoria School, one of them eventually moving up to Bridgewater Middle School. I remember being in the Beeches Prep School at the time. Anybody else remember the staff I wonder? Miss Lambert in Kindergarten and Transition, Miss Cutler - Form 1, Miss Reid - Lower 2 and Mrs Cotton in Middle 2. I was 9 when Queen Elizabeth, the queen mother, came to visit and we all learnt to curtsey to perfection. The streets were crowded and there was a lot of excited pupils

I recently started to research my family tree. I myself have been living in Northchurch for 19 years. I was very suprised to find that my grandfather was born in Cheddington and raised there, as were his siblings, parents and family going way back. Imagine my suprise when I found that one of my great uncles was living on Northchurch High Dtreet in the 1911 census. I yet need to find out who he was working ...see more
Hi, I was christened here at St Peter's Church and lived in Berkhamsted for 21 years.
