More about this scene

Though by no means unchanged, this riverside house is still recognisable and has an enviable situation. Bell Court was originally the name of one of the six manors which made up medieval Bidford. The others were Bidford itself, Bidford Grange, and the outlying hamlets of Broom, Barton and Marlcliff.

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

Whereas the cottage was part of the Bell Court property, the cottage was named "THE NEST" and not Bell Court Cottage. It was originally the Governess Cottage in the book Sisters By A River by Barbara Comyns.
I lived here for two years in 1941/42.  My father rented it from Mrs Switzer who owned Bell Court.  I was ten years old and together with my parents was escaping the Birmingham bombing.  I used to fish from that very unstable veranda. We later rented a home on Grange Road in Bidford.                         Jack Nunn
