February was a very sad time for all my family. There was a light at the end of a very sad day. My youngest son took me to Wednesbury, Old Park Rd, Dudley, and my home 5 Wells Rd. I used to visit two ladies in Bradley during the war years,Arvind and Bessie Walker. Bessie taught me at Stonefield junior school and always rode a bicycle to school.When I visited her home she used to take me on the back of her bike.As a treat in the days of rationing she used to feed me mock crab sandwiches which were actually a mixture of dried egg and chopped tomato! My maternal grandfather, Thomas Mottram, owned The Hop Pole pub on Market Street - sold it in 1924. My paternal great grandfather, A E Webb, started a haulage company, centred at a house called Mendham, on Wolverhampton Street, which became Webb Bros. Any body remember these? My Aunt, Hilda Mottram was a primary school headmistress - not sure which one.
My Grandfather grew up in Hall Green street next to his Aunt, Uncle and 2 cousins, who later ran a grocery shop together down there. Irene and Olive Eliza Roberts, 49 & 50 Hall Green Street. Does anyone have any memories of them or their shop? Also does anyone have any memories of going to Sunday school at Bradley Methodist Church, down the road?
