Bridge House, the Post Office Stores and the adjoining houses (centre bottom) follow the curve of the street, named after The Swan Inn. The shop on the right is Henry Grimwood's grocer's, run by the family from 1926 to 1989. The red brick Ashley House, with the large white gable (centre), was built for Joseph Simpson in 1875; due to its cost, it was known as Simpson's Folly. The white Falcon House beyond was formerly an inn.

Cabot Knewell, Family Butcher At Graham House, Boxford
Cabot Knewell, with wife Joan (nee Joan I Smith), was the master butcher at Graham House, 6 Broad Street, Boxford, from the mid 1940s to the 1970s. To the right is the Fleece. To the left, Riddlestons stationery, now a café. (The river opposite is the River Box - not the Brett; the shop front of the butchers read: C. Knewell, not C.J. Grandma & Granddad Fisher
I have wonderful memories of times spent with my grandparents when they kept The Compasses Inn. I am the youngest of six children of eldest daughter of Jim and Kit Fisher, Doris. I can remeber going to Boxford by bus from Ipswich. I used to get off the bus outside The Fleece to walk along Stone Street to The Compasses. It was always magical to walk and hear the birdsong and the sheer beauty of the countryside. ...see more

Walter Bowers
The horse and waggon is under the control of Mr Walter Bowers. He was our carrier. He would take my rabbits and my mother's chickens and eggs to market.

My Younger Days
t the house he retired to in White St Green. My brother in law, Colin Lewis, served his apprenticeship and became a proficient bricklayer with his building company. I wonder did we know each other or did you know me.

Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
