More about this scene

Brandon was famous for its flint knapping industry, which supplied gunflints throughout the world. The Edwardian pub retains many original features, including stained and lettered glass windows. P W Hyam's, opposite, baker and confectioner, has been demolished, along with all the buildings behind it. This was done when Brandon was redeveloped in the 1960 and 1970s, as a result of becoming a 'London Overspill' town.

A Selection of Memories from Brandon

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

We remember well Mr Arthur Harry Read telling us about his father Henry who was employed as gamekeeper at Brandon House. It was his inlaws who were last of the flintknappers. Henry was also gamekeeper at Kimberley Park, and raised his family in Thetford forest.
