Share your own memories of North Harrow and read what others have said

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

Why not add your memory today and become part of our Memories Community to help others in the future delve back into their past.

My first school was Lyon Hall Preparatory School - a small private two room school. Does anyone have a photograph of this school? During the 2nd WW I went to primary schools in Glasgow, Stirling and Stockton-on-Tees. After the war I attended the Lower School of John Lyon.
I lived in The Ridgeway, schooled at Longfield in Sunflower House , motto 'Cheerfulness' which has endured with me as my favourite flower, I grow monsters and matches the attitude Itry to have still! Miss Perks was the juniors head mistress, Mr Brignall the seniors. I saw another post about North Harrow, so many shops and yes there was a Home and Colonial in the 60s, and Pay and Take, and Noric, and ...see more
I went to this school in 1954 when I was four and living in a large house on Pinner Road, backing onto the railway, shortly before the older terraced houses. I was first in the kindergarten in North Harrow, where we had mattresses for an afternoon nap, and then went to the junior school in Pinner View, eventually returning to the senior school before going on to John Lyon. I loved the school, although I was ...see more
Hi, I have lived here, despite a short time in South Harrow , all my life. I remember so many shops , long since, gone — Sam Lee, toys and sweets, Clark’s cycles ,Coopers hardware, WH Smith, Woolworths, Pembles, newspapers, and I think there was a Home and Colonial store for foods of all sorts . Besides the shops there was the Embassy cinema , where me and friends would go to the Saturday morning pictures ! ...see more
I lived with my parents and older brother and sister at 68 Cambridge Road from 1964-1968--some of the best years of my life. My best friends were Ann and Alan Massey.who lived down the street and right across the street were my parent's best friends, Roy and Judy Lethbridge. I remember visiting a little sweet shop every week ran by a man and his daughter. They were very kind and always put an extra sweet or two in ...see more
My father and his parents ran the sweet shop and ajoining hairdressind salon on the Harrow road. Somewhere near the kodak factory, where all the factory workers came to buy their cigarrettes, tobacco and sweets. They lived above the shop, he went to the local grammer school. Early closing day was Wed or Thurs, he came running home from school one day forgetting the shop was closed early and put his ...see more
I was a part timer here - it was an old Currys store. I ran the record department, largely in the evenings after school. Amazing musicians used to come & go, the shop was 'home' to Tony Knights Chessmen, who were resident at the Flamingo in Soho. I fell deeply for one Susan Morgan, who I still remember with fondness(!) I moved on into music promotion and City expanded into eventual receivership, as far as I ...see more
My dad owned Robinsons Chemist and I lived over it from 1963 till I married in 68. We lived on Anglemead Crescent prior to moving back over the shop! I remember John Moore at Pinner Park/ Headstone and Moira Francis was my friend! Playing in the allotments, down the air raid shelters smoking! Such sweet memories. My maiden name was Shoobridge. I received my share of casings from Mr Manson and his nickname for me was "nicotine Nancy!"
Since I was working for the firm that built the British Restaurant in North Harrow and I lived on Westmorland Road I had a quick ride to work each morning. Once all the plumbing was done I had to go to Wealdstone to report for work. So on the morning in question I rode past the restaurant in a light blowing rain, wishing I was still working there. Suddenly I heard a rushing sound (like that of ...see more
I lived in Blenhiem Road, North Harrow in the 1950s and did a paper round covering a lot of North Harrow. During the late '50s I joined the Kenton Road Club and took up cycling seriously as a sport, we used to hang out at the branches in North and West Harrow, mainly West Harrow in the Pinner Road (the manager was Terry Cronin). I do remember quite a lot of the other members, but one who I can still call a ...see more
