ST JOSEPHS SEMINARY, UPHOLLAND
I am trying to gather memories of St Joseph's college in Upholland for some research that I am doing. I am looking for anything at all that people remember about the place, the people, the routines, rules and stories. Ghost stories would be good too. I would really appreciate any comments.
Thankyou

I was sad to find that the place had finally been closed. My best friend and I worked there in the refectory for a whole year and as we lived in, our bedroom was high up by the statues. This was back almost 40 years ago. In spite of the look of the place, to our disappointment, there were no ghosts at St. Joseph's. But there was a lot of crazyness, frustration and loneliness. Wish I had been ten years older then as the place was a mine for good soap opera material.

Hi, I'm looking for driving directions to the Seminary. Can you tell me what street it is on in Upholland? Thanks, Rebecca

Celia, you must have arrived in 1970 - the year after I was 'released!' I hated the place when I left in 1969, and lost all respect for priests. Cheetham died about two years ago I believe, and I couldn't have been happier. What brought this displeasure to the forefront, was that I learned that Cheetham had done the same to other students, as myself. A very spiteful man. Did you ever hear of the Betty Eccles story? Supposed to haunt the college? If not, let me know and I'll fill you in. By the way....as you worked in the refectory, they used to serve a sausage to the students at breakfast time. It was kind of grey as I recall, but it had a red plastic wrapper that it came in, and once cooked you could spread it like a paste. If you recall that, can you remember what sausage that was? I absolutely adored it! Anyway, let me know...Best Mick
