More about this scene

This view is at the junction of Woodside and Rickmansworth Roads and looks south-west towards Oakfield Corner. Hewitts, the Free Church of 1913 and the hall beyond were demolished in 1963 and replaced by the tawdry flat-roofed three-storey Sycamore House flats, offices and shops. The large many-chimneyed neo-Georgian buildings on the right, Chiltern Parade, were built in 1936 by Sainsbury's who occupied the centre shop. Nearer the camera is the Regent Cinema of 1928, closed in 1962 and tragically demolished and replaced by a frozen food shop.
