More about this scene

The great house was New Place; it has now been converted into cottages. It was the home of the Palmer family in the time of Henry VIII. Ecclesden Manor is a long, low Tudor-style house built in 1634. We are at the hub of the village, with the war memorial in the foreground. The Village Stores has a sign advertising Oxo on the shopfront. The scene is little different today.

We had an ex army camp bed and a rug to sit on and we had a primus stove to boil a kettle. I had a bathing costume made from small squares with elastic sewn on the back, when you went in the water it would ...see more
