More about this scene

The timbered 16th-century Town House on the left was originally the Abbot of Westminster's Tithe office. Behind its oak timbers infilled with wattle and daub, the local market traders would assemble to pay their dues to their manorial landlord. Later condemned, the cottage was purchased in 1929 for £25 and restored to its original condition to house a small local museum.
