I lived at 99 Appledore Avenue, Barnehurst from 1956 - 1975. My school friends from Appledore were David and John Owen, Steve Beard and his lovely Jordy family, Christine , Jennifer and Alan Jones. My next door neighbours were Mrs Fullylove, Fred and Dot Cutts. I went to Barnehurst Primary and Junior School where Miss Cardy and Miss Mumford were the respective headmistresses. We moved from Bexley Village to Barnehurst in 1971 when I was four years old. I grew up with my sister and two brothers on Eastleigh Road where all the children used to come out and play - we'd be out from dawn until dusk in the summer, building dens and camps over Barnehurst Golf Course and climbing trees over at Martens Grove Park, not to mention the long hot ...see more
I lived in Appledore Avenue, for the first 17 years of my life.(1956 - 1973) Happy memories. My parents were married at St Paulinus Church in 1954. I went to Barnehurst Primary and Junior School. the headmistresses were Miss Cardy and Miss Mumford. I go back every so often to rekindle my earliest memories... its such a long time ago

I went to Crayford County Modern Secondary school in Iron Mill Lane 1945 1950.
Now demolished I see!
Each week in summer our class walked from Iron Mill Lane to Martens Grove via Old Road, walking thro' the woodland of the Grove.
I remember my first dive off the high board seen in the picture.
I met my wife to be in Shenstone Park were we played football to impress the girls ...see more
I grew up at 99 Appledore Avenue (junction with Fairford) between 1956 & 1975. I had great mates (David Owen and Steve Beard) and went to Barnehurst CP School. Where have all the years gone and those lovely places such at Martins Grove swimming pool? We used to while away the hot summer holidays, or tracking on our bikes on Dartford Heath or through Barnehurst Golf Course woods. Get in touch if you remember me.

My grandparents lived on the top of the hill near to the pylon. Granddad was away fighting the war with the Royal Navy, and my Gran and mum, Valerie, toughed out the war here (Coniston Road). The air raid shelter later turned into an ornamental pond. There were antiaircraft guns at the end of their garden, on the banks; later, after the war, flats were built there (being replaced back in the 80’s I think). Bursted ...see more
Does anyone remember the Duke of Ediniburgh pub, run by a great couple Eric and May Afrters every night done my early pub training in there all a by gone era now sadly.
I remember spending many happy times at Martins Grove Swimming Pool.The hot summer days, the park packed with children and parents. The high jumping board, the slide and fountain. I lived in Bramar Avenue. My Grandparents lived in Pinnacle Hill, I have happy memories of living in Bexleyheath.
This is very much a shot in the dark.
My parents, Jim & Eva Davidson, moved to Barnhurst in the late 1930s and lived in a maisonette, ground floor I believe. My father worked at the Woolwich Arsenal ordinance factory and I was around 3-4 years old, having been born in Ilford in 1936.
Obviously my memory is minimal but there are a few things that may jog somebody's.

Growing up in Barnehurst still gives me some lovely memories, like Mr Bink's fish & chip shop and the Hairdressers which was run by Mrs English.
We used to go dancing in The Embassy Ball room on a Saturday evening which was always good fun.
