I have been holidaying in Borth y Gest for several years and my mother before me.
We have just been very lucky to buy a house on Ralph St called Gowerian. I understand that the house was named after a ship that apparently sank.
Does anyone have my information about this ship or indeed the house itself.....maybe a captain resided there ?
Would love a picture of the “Gowerian”and any information

I am researching my family tree and have close ties and very fond memories of Borth y gest.
My grandmother lived at Terfyn in Mersey Street for many years along with my mother aunt and uncle's.
My mother grew up at a house called Llety behind borth woods from 1936 till they moved to Terfyn.
Would anybody have a photo of Llety they could post up please......

Paul Ashton has great memories of happy holidays in Borth y Gest as a teenager when a guest in the home of Chris Moore and his family - it was a magical place and despite changes over the years keeps its special aura........... we look forward to many more visits
I am Anne Keating (nee Drake) and was on holiday at the outbreak of war and stayed there for the duration. My Grannie owned Wendon where Marjorie & Olive were evacuated, I remember them both, we were all about the same age. I would be happy to catch up and speak with anyone involved. My sister and I were sent to live at Bron-y-Garth, Dame Sybil's house which we believe had been made available as a home for children during the war. I was 6 months old, my sister 3 when we arrived, and were, we believe, the last to leave the home in 1945/6. We travelled with a nurse by train to London to meet our mother. Hi there, my mum was evacuated early in the Second World War to Borth y Gest from New Ferry on The Wirral, with her sister, they stayed for 2 years or so at Wendon, a large modern flat roofed house, it was owned by a Mrs Drake, who to my mum was elderly then, mum was only 7 at the time. My Great Great Grandfather had a shipyard in Borth-y-Gest. I believe there were four shipbuilders there and he was one of these. His name was William Griffith and he lived in Glyn Terrace, Borth y Gest. That branch of my family lived there for many years and my Grandmother - Catherine Mary Griffith was born there in 1876. My mum was born in Borth y Gest and went to school there too and eventually marry at the church on the harbour front in 1956. My Grandad continued living there with my Grandmother until he died in 1984. Every school holiday that I can remember was spent in Borth y Gest, having adventures in the woods, by the Avon bach, collecting bait and fishing, rock climbing the magnificent slate rocks, ...see more
I'm privileged to be the first to leave a memory relating to Borth Y Gest. I first had a holiday there in 1964. The owner of the factory where my dad was director owned a lovely holiday home in an elevated position in Mersey Street. The house is called "Mirain" and has unrivalled views across the estuary to Harlech. We had at least one holiday a year there until 1978 when the house was sold. ...see more
