Photo of Broom, The Village 1901

More about this scene

There are a number of 16th- and 17th-century half-timbered cottages in this photograph, but judging by the state of some of them the village was living up to the 'Beggarly Broom' image given to it by William Shakespeare.

A Selection of Memories from Broom

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Broom

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

My family moved to Broom because we had family there. We lived at the Camp for a while and my mum made a home out of two of the buildings. My dad worked for Mr Ted Atkins, running the farm side of the Mill. I was very happy in Broom and after 53 years living on Anglesy I still call it my home.. Family long gone now, but still visit and keep in touch with old friends. I sometimes stay at the Broom Hall Hotel which I remember as a Youth Hostel. Hazel Roberts (nee Dorrington).
I have fond memories of agricultural camp at Broom in August 1954. I would love to know what happened to the camp and any history relating to it. Can anyone help please? Pat Partridge
Help required. My GGGrandfather lived in Broom in 1825 and was a miller and I believe his wife was a baker. I would love to hear from anyone who can tell me where the mill was situated or any of the history of Broom at that time. If you can supply any information please contact me at rogersavage@spc-msa.freeserve.co.uk Thanks for taking the time to read this note. Roger
