More about this scene

Builth Wells is in 'the county of rivers', and the River Wye lazily winds its way around this old spa town. Mineral waters were first discovered at Builth in the 1700s. By the 1800s the town was packed with visitors 'taking the waters' and hotels and guest houses sprung up to accommodate them. Still more came in the late 19th century after the arrival of the railways.

A Selection of Memories from Builth Wells

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Builth Wells

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

My grandparents lived in Park Road, and as children myself and my sister used to go tiddler fishing under the suspension bridge. My sister's cat, Danny, used to follow us and join us in our endeavours. And my cat, Honey, got stuck up a tree. I remember being terrified crossing the suspension bridge as it swayed from side to side - better than any ride at Alton Towers!
