More about this scene

Looking eastwards along Church Street from Magnolias, across the River Bride, in a sylvan setting beside a clapper bridge next to the village school. Beyond is a 17th-century manor house, now known as the Rookery. The biggest excitement hereabouts in recent times was when the rector's son Donald Ridler set out along the road with his home-made boat 'Erik the Red', in which he sailed alone to America to prove the Vikings could have reached Cape Cod. That was in 1971, and the vessel is now in Exeter Maritime Museum.
