More about this scene

This small village, about three miles to the east of Loughborough, has in recent decades expanded to accommodate country- dwelling commuters. One building of interest is the Hall, mainly of the late 18th century, which was formerly the hunting lodge for the Dukes of Somerset. A small mission church in the village is dependent on St Andrews, Prestwold. The photograph clearly illustrates the village expansion with housing that could literally be anywhere.

My father was a Peruvian diplomat in London and came over to Ashby Close on the weekends. I have no personal memories since I was born in 1940. Ms. Ardynn Lembke lived permanently in that country house. My parents, who died in 1988, had ...see more
