More about this scene

The gardens commemorate John Kay, born in Bury in 1704 and inventor of the flying shuttle. Mobs ransacked his home fearing that the machine would rob them of work, and mill owners refused to pay his royalties; he ended his days a pauper in France. The copper-domed building behind is the Market Hall, and the Royal Cinema stands beyond.
