Nostalgic memories of Crosby's local history

Share your own memories of Crosby and read what others have said

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

Why not add your memory today and become part of our Memories Community to help others in the future delve back into their past.

Worked as a Saturday girl in 1970s and then in summer holidays as a Student. So sad to see that famous building with the naked man Statue so part of our heritage now derelict and deserted. Lived near Victoria Park Waterloo bordering on Crosby and Merchant Taylor's Boys school . Went to Seafield Grammar School so nostalgic to see the postcards. Would love to see some old photos of a bustling Lewis Store ,Blacklers and old George Henry Lees store (John Lewis branch)

I remember having coal delivered at my Mothers house , we lived in Mill Close, and had a shed just for coal .I remember them coming to deliver the coal and it would be a lot of noise as they filled it up.This would be around 1959 to 1966.Do not remember the name of the company.Lucy Brauer
I remember a home for unmarried mothers in blundellsands Crosby, I am hoping to find local people who may remember it, it was called Berkley house but also had a catholic name it wasn't far from the station off serpentine rd I think. I would love to know how people felt then about such a place and how it would be now. I think it had connections with a catholic church round the corner . Any memory would suffice. Thank you
my memory is also asking for information. Does anyone remember {this will be for the older generation} a mother and baby home not far from the station its common name was Berkley House but it also had a catholic name ,it was just off Serpentine rd. Blundellsands. I think it had connections with a catholic church around the corner. I am trying to find the Catholic name for the house. I have sad and happy memories of Crosby and am trying to contact some girls from there. It closed in 1968
Hi, I remember the pet shop but not the name of it. It was in Fir Road I think. I bought all my first animals from there, tortoise mice, rabbits and hamsters!
Hi, I remember the Friday night dances at St Luke's but at 15 I wasn't allowed to go but my cousin Kate Smith from Crosby Manor went. she was always swooning over the groups like The Crying Shames and B B King.
I remember the coal being delivered to my Nanas house in Kingswood Avenue but not any names you mentioned as I was only around 10 at the time. I remember Jumps Dairy in Endbutt Lane (from where I first tasted yoghurt (Ski) and Hannons sweet shop then green grocers later.
