Nostalgic memories of Tolworth's local history

Share your own memories of Tolworth and read what others have said

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

Why not add your memory today and become part of our Memories Community to help others in the future delve back into their past.

I worked at Victor Towlers for ten years and the photo Tolworth Broadway 1965 with the square clock at 2;30 is the wrong date. I suggest it is probably 1960 as per the others. The shop on the left was part of Victor Towlers by 1962 when I started there. Many thanks for this information - it has been passed on to our archivist and the image date will be altered. Ed.

My name is Alan Naber and in 1949 I was five years old and started my school life at Red Lion Road school. This is an account of how I saw life at that time with a few additions from other students I am still in touch with. It’s such a big world out there! Having been born under the doodlebugs and bombing of London mum and I had been evacuated to the country at Bury St Edmunds. Here we stayed ...see more
I arrived in Tolworth at the age of 5. Went to Sheephouse Lane School, later to Tolworth Central School (Boys). In 1940 I was standing outside 84 Southwood Drive when an unexploded bomb went off behind 73. The blast blew the front windows of 84 out. My Mother fainted. I was only aware of the noise and wondered what all the fuss was about. My close friends were Peter Emms, Pauline Skelton, Rita Tompkins, Shirley ...see more
