Winstanley Road
A Memory of Battersea.
I was born in 1950 at 45 Winstanley Road, the house next door to Foxwells the bakers on the corner of Speke Road. Opposite my house was the Church of the Nazarene where I went to Sunshine corner on a Sunday.
Directly opposite my house was the off license, we called it 'the old mans', and further up the road was Franks fish and chip shop where we,d buy 'six of chips'. Up by my house was Swifts sweet shop and then further up was Roberts (by Grant Road) nearer the Clapham Junction arcade.
I vaguely remember a mobile merry-go-round coming round.
I also remember Ivy and Bill Humphrey and another shop (they sold ice blocks because I used to put them on mums account without her knowing ) opposite Foxwells.
We moved from there when I was about 12 to a council estate in Blondell Street near Battersea County School. I went to Falconbrook School and then Lavender HIll School for girls.
I remember going to Saturday morning pictures and singing on stage and getting in free on your birthday and also getting a card and a bag of sweets.
I now live in New Zealand.

I was born in stockwood street and going to Sunday school with my cousin who lived in new common road.
Even now I never been able to find fish &
chips that tasted as good as Frank's.
My grandchildren don't believe we got fish & chips for 1d & 6p. I also remember the merry-go-round and dose anyone remember the little fair in falcon road next to the wood yard. Also Saturday morning pictures at the Granada. Kids today don't know what they are missing.
