The Beatles

A Memory of Borehamwood.

I remember when The Beatles came to The Wood in 1963 to record the Morecambe & Wise show at the ATV Studios off Eldon Avenue. Me & a couple of mates from school (Holmshill) played truant to wait at the back of Studio Gates off Shenley Road to try and catch a glimpse. After waiting a few hours it got to lunch time so we wandered up to Shenley Road for a bite, and there was John & Paul just walking along by Woolies! I had a copy of the current Beatles Monthly magazine and got them both to sign the cover. Guess what, some years later I must have binned it with the rest of the collection - what would that be worth now! What a dope. But an amazing experience talking to them. Was well worth the trouble I got into at school the next day, Mr Heaton the Head was not impressed one bit.

I remember that day very well, I was there with another lot of my friends we too got very excited when they drove out of the ATV Studio gates in Eldon Avenue. in December 1963. A friend of mine who had a Royal Enfield motor cycle decided to follow them and as soon as The Beatles came out in their black Austin Princess limousine, we followed them up towards the A1 Barnet Bye Pass, but they built up so much speed we couldn't keep up with them, they then just disappeared. They were at the ATV studios to record on The Morecom and Wise show. Happy memories.
