Peel Street School

A Memory of Cloughfold.

My grandmother and her brothers and sisters attended this school as did my mother and moi. I have many memories of the school. Endless games of football in the yard, rain or shine.
Two frightening headmistress Lord and Riley. Schooling was by the old fashion way, learning by rote, looking back no bad thing. When the snow was thick enough sledging in the rear yard.
I used to go home for dinner and sat on the wall next to the now gone newsagents. Sometimes after school in the afternoon I used to walk home spending my bus fare on sweets at Mrs Mudds. K lye and spanish comes to mind.
Watching the steam trains and later Diesels all fascinating to a young boy. The walk home in summer was enjoyable. No many cars those days unlike now.
