Hi, I remember the pet shop but not the name of it. It was in Fir Road I think. I bought all my first animals from there, tortoise mice, rabbits and hamsters!

We bought our first rabbit and guinea pig there. The guinea pig was Pip, and the rabbit Bobtail. I can remember it weeing all over me as we took it in a basket to the car.

It was owned by my parents friend George Antrobus. He used to take a lot of the animals home to the newsagent they also owned in Bootle near the docks over the weekends. He kept in Bootle a grey parrot which someone had bought but never collected.He ‘showed’ his Alsatian Dogs and they won prizes.
