A Memory of Dartford.

Born Livingstone Hospital East Hill in 1947. Lived on Temple Hill from the age of 5 years, went to Temple Hill later Dartford East (The Downs) schools. First job at 14, was at Phillips toy and cycle shop. I also belonged to the Mephisto Cycle Club at this time. My second job was on vehicle maintenance for the Dartford Wharfage Co, in Lower Hythe Street. Spent lunch times in the café on the corner of Victoria Rd, drinks after work in the Hufflers. Some years later I worked for Beck & Pollitzer. My teens were spent at the Railway Tavern, Royal Victoria & Bull, Coop Hall, and Sunday night at the Black Prince Bexley. It was a great time in a great town. I now live in Maidstone, but I miss old Dartford and my old mates.

Hi. I know the name, what part of Temple Hill did you live? I grew up in Wellcome Ave. My brother in-law boxed, Richard Hurley. You didn't say where you worked.

l lived in Ruskin Grovetill laws 16 then love to Queen Grardens on Fleet Estate .l worked for Modus Engineering next to the blue star on the Princes road . Also nboxed for the Sea cadets boxed with David Bull and the Ellis brothers .Tryed to fine David Bull but can't find will try this time

You may know Ann and Roger Bergess from Landsbury Crescent. Ray Bolton. Bill Gray, the Hamilton twins. from Kingsley Ave. I cant remember the engineering works next to the B-S we hung around the Blue Star of a night we would meet there about 11 when the pubs chucked out. Paul Bristow worked there. he moved to NZ in the 70s. In Wellcome Ave, my mates were Tony Harbourne and John Pierson. I drove a
blue Sprite in the late 60s early 70. All the best Tom.

I was also born in 1947 at West Hill Hospital and moved to Temple Hill when I was 5. Went to school there, then Dartford West, then Erith Tech. I lived at Joyce Green Lane for 18 years. I remember Ann Burgess, Valerie Sales, Linda Degnin, Sid Bodycomb, Alan Berricloth (sp?) Derek Reynolds, even Keith Richards, Jenny Hunt, Margaret James,...and loads more. I moved to Canada in 1973,
but currently in Utah. It was really fun growing up there, wouldn't change it. Anyone else go to Woodcraft Folk in the Green Huts?

Hi, I have memories of Dartford and working in the booking office of the station there in the '60's.
I had a girl friend, Ann Burgess, who lived on the Temple Hill Estate. I would love to get back in touch so, if anyone knows of her whereabouts, I would be happy to find out how she is doing. Her father worked in the ambulance department.

Not sure if you are still active on this site. Born in Dartford in 52 now living in Australia. I used to run a mobile disco in Dartford with a great friend Keith Bradley and John Still and we called it Mephisto CC after a black white and green shirt I picked up at a jumble sale. We played lots of venues in Dartford. YMCA , Black Prince, Princess hotel. Love this site.
Still have the shirt although it no longer fits. Left for Australia in 1972. Dad still lives on tree estate at 90 yrs.

Anne Burgess now lives up in Norfolk her email address in shawpaws@supanet.com She is an author (2 books) I do believe she is married and has two children.

I remember an Anne Carey who lived on Temple Hill and went to the school there. I do believe her family went to Canada (where I am now since1972). There were a couple of twins Michael and Maureen who also went to Canada. Linda Borely is also in Canada. This is a great site for remenicing.

I was Ann Burgess and went to Temple Hill School, The Downs and Dartford Technical High School.
I married to become Ann Fenning and had 1 son. I have two lovely grandchildren and live in Norfolk. I am now Ann Couchman having married Tom from Welcome Avenue on Temple Hill. We went out together in 1969 and recently (2013) met up again. I have written 6 books - true life stories mainly under the name of P A Fenning.
