A close up view of John Dudley's handiwork, showing the hall, centre left, and great chamber, centre right. The castle's downfall was in two stages. After the end of the Civil War, it was slighted (or de-fortified). This destroyed the castle walls, turrets and gatehouse, but left the residential side unharmed. The second stage was a major fire on 24 July 1750, which blazed for two days and finished the castle as a residence. Here visitors to the zoo loll about, largely unaware of the history that surrounds them.

Birdcage Walk In The Beginning
I remember when Birdcage Walk was first opened. My husband John and his father William cleaned the Windows of most of the shops there. It was like a little community, it had everything. Paper shop, wet fish shop, butchers, clothes shops and even the Dudley Herald newspaper office was there. Happy days.

Park School Dudley
Hi, I too attended The Park School and remember Miss Napier. I also remember Miss Wright ~ P.E.."Gabby Haynes" ~Music.I left in 1958. I was then Carol Roden. Any one else remember ?

My Early Years Living In Dudley, West Midlands.
I was born in Dudley West Midlands, up till the age of 7 yrs old I lived in Cannock staffs. when my Dad changed jobs we came back to Dudley, My mother became a church Caretakers for the Congration church, which isn't there now, we moved from there and went to live in The high street, on the Highside, which is now a Garden, I remember my mum taking me to Dudley zoo about 3 times a year, ...see more

Wolverhampton Street Community
Wolverhampton Street seemed to almost be a village on its own. There was Burgins and Bytherways newagents, Masseys wet fish shop, Davis's grocers, Smiths greengrocers, Sherratts electrical, Bryans diy, Robinsons cakes, Abrhams cobblers, Hoffs and Falcon furniture shops, Wainwrights bike shop, Edwards butchers, Parkes electrical repairs and Piolis ice cream shop and cafe and hairdressers, Shelleys ...see more

Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
