More about this scene

On the left of this photograph of the High Street is the boarded-up shop of E Wraight, cycle agent. The Wraight brothers were also builders, blacksmiths and undertakers. Next door is the Gift Shop, and across the road is J A Norman, selling fruit and vegetables. Also in the High Street was the Ship Inn, which had a very strong connection with smugglers. The Lords, Bailiff and Jurats of Romney Marsh used to hold their annual lunch there, and turned a blind eye to any smuggling activities.

I am struggling to find much information. Thank you

It was a beautiful thatched building on The Oval , very near the beach. It had a big garden and I remembering playing in there and drinking coke out of glass bottle with a straw a real holiday treat in those days. There was an old shop in the village which ...see more
My sister Marjorie Andrew and her husband Ralph had the Vic between 1940 and 1950. I lived in Yorkshire and visited every year during the summer holidays and I loved the place. I did read that it had been renamed after refurbishment of the outside where the original name of the Ship Inn was discovered, then retained. I would love to hear from anyone who was around st that time.
