The Scariest House In Hornsey Crescent Rd

A Memory of Hornsey.

I was brought up in Williams Close in Crescent Road in 1962-1983. At top our road there was a old gothic house which I was looked after in as a four year old by a lovley lady called Mrs Murphy. I always felt uneasy in that house, it had a bad feel about it. As the years rolled by the gothic house was left empty; at night time that house looked way scary. One summers day me and my mate, Clarky, decided to go up to the old house in the back garden, I was going to dig up some plants for my little garden in the flats. It was a scorching hot day, I was on my hands and knees diging up these plants when I heard an almighty crash. l looked round to see Clarky running. I got up and run after him shouting "why did you chuck a brick through the window?" We got back to my block of flats where Clarky explained that he saw the big glass window explode from the inside, which was a bit creepy. After a bit of time me and Clarky and some other chums decided to go and investigate the old gothic house. We all went up to the top floor where there was a black magic star in the middle of the floor and other black magic signs on the walls; it was a very scary house. I did have some strange things happen to me over the next few months. In the end the gothic house was raided by the police and closed up before being pulled down but for some reason they kept the front of the building and built some new flats - very strange. Apart from that and few other close encounters, growing up in Crouch End in those days was truly magical -what a fantastic childhood.

Wow! My hair stood on end when you described your experience in this house. I lived in mountview road and was a pupil of Highgate Wood School from 1971-1978.
I remember we used to walk the back road to the bus stop at the top of the hill. Then the Got hic house was derelict. One day me and some friends went into the house. There was a door to the basement and I clearly remember on the stone floor in the basement a Zodiac made in mosaic.
We concluded it was a house of witchcraft and left never to return.
As you said over the years, the house was demolished but they kept the facade.
So I am not surprised and can believe your story.
