Share your own memories of Hounslow and read what others have said

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

Lampton park was my playground up to age 9. In late spring I raided the crab apple trees and kept an eye open for Shorty the park keeper. Also raided the pond for newts.
The swimming baths were opposite the Town Hall. And the library. Had to have swimming lessons there via Grove Rd School. (60s) Diane nee Underhill
Spring Grove Central was one of the happiest times of my life. Sadly the school closed and we were all moved to Heathlands in Wellingron Road South. I have been long gone from the area, leaving to train as a nurse at Guys Hospital. But recently returned to work in a recovery team several years ago based a few minutes walk from Thornbury Road. Schoo friends were:Lynn Meredith, Wendy Hankin, Maurèen Kavanagh, Lisa Mcdonnell and Penny.
My schoolfriend john beeston mum worked there and we often went there together in the mid fifties
When I was about 5 or so, I ended up here by ambulance suffering from double pneumonia. I gave my watch to the boy in the bed next to mine because I thought he was in a worse shape than me! Nice to see the fresh air doors in the end patio section again after all these years.
My grandmother left England on 27th September 1923 for Beria Mozambique. Her address on the ships log is given as 53 Wellington Road North, Houndslow. I have been over to have a look hoping to find this house, but the address seems no longer to exist. The houses on the town centre side of Wellington Road North 38 - 52 are still there and intact Victorian Terrace Homes. ...see more
I lived at Hounslow West and went to Hounslow Heath infant and junior school. Don’t remember much about the infants. My first teacher in the junior school was Miss/Mrs Roberts. I remember filling up the ink wells in the desks. This would have been about 1959. I then went to Miss Elborn. It was a very large classroom. I remember the ‘nit nurse’ coming regularly to check us. Girls with bunches, pony tails and plaits had ...see more
