Harrison Gobson Fire 1959

A Memory of Ilford.

I was a young child with my Mother and sibling stranded at Romford Station on the night Harrison - Gibson burned down, after a visit to GrandMa because the power had also been turned off to the overhead power lines on the railway behind the store putting a stop to the electric trains. Think we ended up taking to the buses via the Eastern Avenue. Coincidentally one suffered a similar fate after a visit to an Uncle in Brentwood during the early 1960's when the fire that destroyed the Bishops Gate Goods Deport also stopped the electric trains running. A neighbor across the road where I currently live once was part of the watch on which the TV Series London's Burning was based on and this was one of a series of fires in East London which had big question marks over them
