Leigh School

A Memory of Leigh.

My sister and I used to spend every summer in Leigh, so much so that we even attended the School. I think it helped that our granny was Mrs Faulkner (Dorothy)the Infant school teacher. Grampy was Sandy, our mum Jean was born and brought up in or very near Leigh. Till she met dad, they married at Leigh church and moved to London. Granny retired in 1965 and they moved to Yorkshire with us, then on to Nottingham with us again, but Leigh was always home. Grampy passed away in 1987 and Granny in 1989, they had celebrated their Diamond Wedding and were great grandparents to 2 boys and 2 girls , Granny and Grampy were as special to them as they were precious to us. My mum is 87 now and loves to tell her grandchildren and great grandchildren about her life in Leigh, We remember it as a wonderful place we recall the church, visits to Fudges bakery often at breakneck speed on a cart that we lost control of on the hill so we either ended up in the ditch or in Fudges yard , with the Tidd twins, the cart being from the Carpenters Arms. I often wonder how we never really hurt ourselves but Granny was good at patching up knees. This has been lovely thank you , Anne .
