My first school was Lyon Hall Preparatory School - a small private two room school. Does anyone have a photograph of this school? During the 2nd WW I went to primary schools in Glasgow, Stirling and Stockton-on-Tees. After the war I attended the Lower School of John Lyon.
I lived in The Ridgeway, schooled at Longfield in Sunflower House , motto 'Cheerfulness' which has endured with me as my favourite flower, I grow monsters and matches the attitude Itry to have still! Miss Perks was the juniors head mistress, Mr Brignall the seniors. I went to this school in 1954 when I was four and living in a large house on Pinner Road, backing onto the railway, shortly before the older terraced houses. I was first in the kindergarten in North Harrow, where we had mattresses for an afternoon nap, and then went to the junior school in Pinner View, eventually returning to the senior school before going on to John Lyon. Hi, I have lived here, despite a short time in South Harrow , all my life. I remember so many shops , long since, gone — Sam Lee, toys and sweets, Clark’s cycles ,Coopers hardware, WH Smith, Woolworths, Pembles,newspapers, and I think there was a Home and Colonial store for foods of all sorts . Besides the shops there was the Embassy cinema , where me and friends would go to the Saturday morning pictures ...see more
