More about this scene

Here we see an attractive village centre group and a splendid single-decker bus. The battlemented tower of St Bartholomew's (left) just shows above the row of rather good brick and tile cottages, into which the post office has been thrust. Further along Station Road are a pretty thatched building, a good turn of the 19th century local granite house, and the 18th-century Dower House. It is interesting to contrast the fine street light on the left with the vision of things to come on the right. Behind it is an appalling flat-roofed modern intrusion.
