Yes I was at Monksbarn. When Auntie & Uncle Jones ran it. I remember all of the other Aunties and Uncles well. I was there in April-Sept 1970’s. It was not in Caversham, but at 27 Cressingham Road, off the Shinfield Rd, where one of the 2 Auntie Sues lived. I have a few a photos still and an excellent memory although I am now 60! I stayed in care until I was 21, having gone to various other homes including the now infamous Duncroft where I was abused by Jimmy Saville. We went camping from Monksbarn to a place in Dorset called Church Knowledge. I was sent from the small onsite school, in a terrapin, to the local secondary modern girls school in Northumberland Avenue. We would swim off Caversham bridge, most of us were in care of Berkshire social services. I was in care of Newbury SS. More memories for anyone who wants to contact me...the person who mentioned ‘Uncle Tom’ I can also assist you. Good luck to everyone xxx
johnston7jn@btinternet.com or phone me, I am in Weymouth now, 01305761469. PLEASE?
I have a copy of our reception into care records and some limited info from case notes recorded by staff.
Sadly no photos tho I have a memory of a photo of wearing red flares. I am on a self driven journey and researching my family tree which is informative and interesting. Emotiveless and undamaging as it fact based I am excluded from all the. baggage of life's dramas leading to care and suits me well.
Photographs would be nice as it brings the history of your research alive.
I remember unvle and aunty Jones also uncle Roger.
