More about this scene

Now a suburb of Wellington, the village was once known as Rowe Green, but often dubbed 'Rogue Green' because of the unruly behaviour of some of its inhabitants. Near Oaken Ground is an old well, whose waters during the mid 18th century were credited with curative properties, and were regarded particularly beneficial for the treatment of strained and weak eyes.

A Selection of Memories from Rockwell Green

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Rockwell Green

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

My g g grandfather, Robert Jennings, is a resident at the pub with his wife Sarah and their children on the 1891 census. I always believed that he was the landlord as his son, my g grandfather, Charles, and his wife Florence ran it after him. Florence was the landlady of the Weavers until the 1970's. Towards the end of her life she was the oldest landlady in Britain.
I've just discovered that my G.G.G. Grandfather's brother, Albert Fouracre, was the Licensed Victueller at this pub in 1891. Does that mean he was the Landlord?
