Rugeley

A Memory of Rugeley.

I'm doing research on Rugeley. I'm wondering does anyone have memories of Green Lane Farm? It was sold in 1960. I recently read that you could walk across the fields to Etching Hill from Green Lane. Rugeley has changed so much in recent years. Even the last of our fields are disappearing. It would be such a pity if all our memories are buried beneath the oncoming housing estates. The fields I walked across to Cannock Chase with my dogs are now fenced off. The last time I walked that way even the Rising Brook was fenced off. The wildflower meadow no longer blooms next to the gurgling brook. The last I heard there is just a trail for mountain bikers.

I was born in park view terrace not far from the farm I remember playing in the fields around the farm and I got my first taste of fresh milk straight from the udder and if you got thirsty you could always call at the white house not far from the farm for a drink of water.of making dams in the stream that ran from the cricket field past the farm!!
Hello wtmilsom, Thanks for sharing your memories. I love reading about times passed in what was once such a beautiful country town. Can you tell me was the white house up the lane from the farmhouse or further down the lane. You certainly have some wonderful memories.
I lived in the old cottage at the bottom of Green Lane from 1958 to 1968. I used to help milk the cows at Green Lane Farm and pick the potatoes from the open fields at the end of the summer. The farm owners were Grimley and Judy Grimley was my first girl friend. She started the hairdressers which I think is still nearby. Opposite the farm was a area enclosed by a high brick wall. The pigs were kept here. There was very little traffic , even on Western Springs road
