2nd World War Years 1942 46

A Memory of Sheffield.

I lived Bents Green from about 1934 till 1963 apart from about 8 years, which were taken up by 6 years in the Merchant Navy, 2 National Service.
I went to Ecclesall Church School for my school days, a Reverend Turner was the curate for the school at the time and needed new Choir Boys for the Church, so my mum urged me to be part of it, so began 4 or 5 years of constant choir practices with a Mr Turner (no relation to the curate). Lots of fun, pokes in the back from the men of the choir for fidgeting during long sermons, with their hym books.
The Memorial Hall was also a part of the my schooling too, for those of us who never made it to Grammar School etc did our last years there.
I married in 1961, not at Ecclesall, but at Wadsley Parish Church, migrated to Australia in 1963, been here 50 years now.
