More about this scene

The name Souldern derives from 'Sulthorn', meaning 'thorn bush in a gully'. Most of the houses are built with grey stone, and some are fairly large, as we see here. The pond, which was once the village well, is fed by spring water. Its calm waters reflect this compact, peaceful, and quiet north Oxfordshire village.

To my young mind it was like going into a palace, being waited on and even a cook and gardener, the happiest time of my life. I also remember the post office, the Fox Inn, ...see more
