Happy Memories

A Memory of Talacre.

Came upon the Talacre photos while looking for photos of my hometown. The memories just flooded back of happy holidays with my Mum, Dad and sister and also extended family of uncles, aunts and cousins. Our first holiday was about 1967 in Taylors Field, then after that we stayed in a chalet in what we called the hidden valley which was just on the beach, there was a bus converted to a house where Arthur lived. We would go with the adults in the evening to the arcade on Station Road?? then get coke and crisps and head back to the chalet with a couple of the adults, then whoever's turn it was to stay out for a drink brought us all pasties back from the bakehouse which was open till late at night. The toilet was outside and my uncles and my dad took it in turn to empty the toilet!. We also got our water from a tank with a tap on at the back of the chalet, the lighting was a gas light. Our last holiday was in 1971 and the place was starting to become derelict. Arthur and his bus had gone and chalets were either falling down if they hadn't been knocked down. We recently came across a lot of old black and white family photos of the holidays and I treasure them. My sister and I take a trip to Talacre about every 18months just for a few hours to have a trip down memory lane. I'm also tinged with sadness, or is it nostalgia as my lovely Mum and Dad passed away last year. I am so glad I have found the photos on this site as it has revived lovely memories of a happy childhood and great holidays. Was it me or did the sun always shine when we were there!!

My parents had a "bungalow" in the hidden valley - and my Sisters and parents spent most weekends there in the late 60"s early 70's until they were compulsory purchased.

I only have vague memories as i was very young (born 1970) - but they are very fond memories.

It was a very close knit community, where children could safely play from dawn till dusk.

No electricity, or Running water and the toilet was a bucket in a shed (which the men folk "emptied / buried" )

Enjoyed reading others memories
