Dad As A Choir Boy At St Davids

A Memory of Tonyrefail.

After my dad passed away in January this year (2012), I realised I knew very little about my family history. I started searching the records for dad's family - a difficult task looking for a Davies who was born in Wales! I had a stroke of luck when we came across my grandad's birth certificate. Armed with date and place of birth I found on the 1911 census that Arthur Reginald Davies(grandad aged 4), lived at 67 High Street, Tonyrefail. From there, we started to look at everything else we had more carefully. We found written on back of a picture of dad, dressed as a choir boy (one we had looked at so many times) that he had written 'Me, age 12, St Davids Church, Wales, 1942'. I believe that this was St Davids in Tonyrefail, as I know that my dad was sent to live with either his grandparents or his aunt and uncle in Wales during the 2nd World War. Thank you for these photos, it's amazing to see what was part of my family's past. If anyone knows anything about my family, I would love to hear about it. My dad was Gerald Reginald Davies, but was sometimes known as Reg. He was born in 1930 and passed away in January this year. The best Dad ever.. My great grandad was Edward Davies, his wife was Mary Ellen Davies (nee Fairhurst?) and their sons were Arthur Reginald(Grandad), Percy Thomas and Douglas.
