Wallasey Village

A Memory of Wallasey.

1968' the year we were married, I got a job working for Quayles chemist opposite the pig farm, now St Mary's College. The smell from the pig farm was awful. I remember having to sweep outside the shop every morning, holding my nose from the smell! Next door was Joynson's market gardener and every Saturday they used to open the doors of the barn (now Hardman's double glazing) to sell their produce; the queue would be outside along the pavement. Next door was a shoe shop/repair called Howard's, where I would buy my children's school shoes and black pumps. The village was special, not like now where you can have a manicure, hairdo or a takeaway, and not much more.
