Simms Cross School
A Memory of Widnes.
I was born in 1933 and went to Simms Cross School. When the blitz of liverpool took place, firengines came from all over the North West and after the first night they were replaced by a fresh group of machines and those who had worked all night were moved to Simms Cross School to catch up on some sleep. I arrived at school for what I thought would be a normal schol day to be greeted with a boys idea of heaven, a school yard full of so many fire engines. We were called to assembly and told to go home.
I went home to be asked why, the school is full of firengines, I replied and received a beating for telling lies.
