Priors Hill

A Memory of Wroughton.

My greatest memory was the summer evenings during the 1976 heat wave playing 123 & in in Manor Close. I spent many an evening pulling the pines from my clothes having hidden in the conifurs outside 12 priors Hill.
We were never board if I remember, sometimes mischeveous but never board (nothing wrong with a bit of apple noggin).
I remember when the Ellendune Hall was being built, climbing on the mounds of earth throwing lumps of mud at each other.
I also remember doing my paper round in Bakers Road and being chased by a collie dog belonging to the Hawkes's. I'm sure it used to hear me coming and stand on that wall waiting. (Never did like Lassie).
The characters around at this time were something else, Colin Smith, John Banting, The Hatheralls, Bill and Ida Morton who ran The Swan to name but a few.
Great days and i miss them terribly.

Hope you enjoyed my trip down memory lane.

Hi Dave, what great memories and so lovely you remember my parents Bill & Ida! I remember also smelling of conifers and playing badminton over them outside your house - even now that smell takes me back to that time.
Also remember the Lassie dog - always scary on top of that wall. Fishing down The Pitchens for hours and playing on our bikes. Do you remember playing 'Simon' and Space Invaders in the Family Room at the Swan?
You're right, we were never bored and it always seemed to be sunny! Happy, happy times.
Hi Gill. Wow great to hear from you. God doesn't time fly. Badminton over over my hedges. You'd have thought we'd have been world champions with all the practice we had LOL.
You still living in Swindon. How are your mum and dad. They did visit my wifes Sweet shop in the Brunel some years ago and i kept meaning to pay them a visit. I did hear your dad wasn't too well.
I don't get out to Wroughton that much since my dad passed away. Jennie still lives in the village and i see her quite a bit.
I'm a granddad now so rather occupied. I still look far to young to be a granddad.
Great to hear from you. Keep in touch. My email address is davebracken364@gmail.com incase you ever want to contact me.
Take care Dave
