Griffiths House Hotel was the home of Mary Ann Evans,(George Eliot) She based inher writings on life in Nuneaton. If you know the area well and then read her books you can relate to Nuneaton quite easily. The Work House or the College as it was known, was part of the George Eliot Hospital in College Street. My brother was a firefighter at the time and attended this tragic incident has anyone personal memories off this ? I am looking for photos off said incident as well? J Perrin
I remember calling for my friend Josie who lived in Princes street.We would walk down coton road towards the town and go in a chip shop there.We would sit in the small room at the back and order a plate of chips smothered in mushy peas.This would cost us ninepence.I loved Nuneaton in the sixties.We'd have a walk round town,maybe pop in Smiths and look at the shift dresses with their hipster belts,or cross the road to wh ...see more
