Gran & Grandad's House
Mam was born in Victoria Garesfield, the houses I can remember have now been demolished. In later years they lived in School Houses where there were about four converted bungalows. My grandad worked in nearly all the local pits, his name was Robert Atkinson, I believe he was born in the village. My gran was called Phobe May (Ward), Mam was called Jeam May, her twin is called Betty. John was their brother. All are alive and well. I recently drove past the area, how it has changed, all overgrown. Mam would like to hear of any old friends.

RE: RE: Gran & Grandad's House
I remember your grandad and grandma very well and they were lovely people. Their house was 53 Victoria Terrace and I was born at No 47 (not as 'grand' and one of the houses known as the Duckets.
I remember your mum Jean and her sister Betty (non-identical twins I recall) and also John who was several years younger.
Great to hear from the the old Garesfieldites!
I recently won a battle with Gateshead Council who had erected road signs at the village wrongly naming it as just Garesfield. Justice has been done and the name Victoria Garesfield has been restored. It deserves to be properly remembered.

RE: RE: Gran & Grandad's House
I remember your Gran and Grandad and the twins Jean and Betty. I think they lived next door to Mr & Mrs French. Ann French was my best friend. Also remember Bill Gardner who has also posted a comment, who lived next door to my grandad and grandma Matt and Jessie Lee. I lived in the "top duckets". It's great to hear that some of us old Garesfieldites are still alive and well.
